"I started this film festival out of frustration from dealing with other festivals because there was almost never any feedback provided or there was an additional charge to receive it. I run a workshop to help screen-writers refine their scripts. Filmmakers need the same kind of critique, which is why we send everyone their scoresheet. Improvement requires assessment."
Our Unique Approach
Southern Shorts Awards is a seasonal competition where each entry is judged on its own merits. We are the only Film Festival that provides comprehensive feedback to every submission.
Judging Process
- Every film screened by three industry professional judges
- 10-point scale evaluation system
- Scoring criteria includes: Originality, Screenplay, Direction, Acting, Cinematography, Sound Design, Editing, Music, and Production Design
- All judges have IMDb credits or equivalent experience
Award Categories
- Awards of Merit: Basic filmmaking competence
- Awards of Excellence: Higher levels of creativity and ability
- Awards of Distinction: Professional quality
- The Orson Award: Reserved for films showing true genius
